An Easy Car Theft In Elmhurst Neighborhood: Cops

In another case, illegal parking near a business drew the city's attention, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a stolen car, illegal parking, harassment, battery, theft, a dog bite, a scam and vandalism. Here is information from the latest reports:

Stolen car

  • A man told police that he left his unlocked car with the keys inside in the alley in the 100 block of North Larch Avenue. He discovered it missing about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle was later found in Aurora.

  • An officer and code enforcement responded to a complaint of a boat parked in the street about 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Win Auto Plaza, 704 W. Lake St. The boat was to be moved. A citation was issued for a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.

Harassment

  • A woman at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St., told police Sunday that she was receiving unwanted messages from a man and that she believed he was stalking her. An officer told the man to stop contacting the woman.

Battery

  • An officer was called about 3:30 p.m. Sunday to Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, because of a combative patient. The officer suffered a cut to his left ear while detaining the patient. The officer and suspect were treated for injuries.

Theft

  • A woman stole clothing about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.
  • Two men stole a box containing cigarettes about 5:30 a.m. Thursday at 782 N. Industrial Drive.

Dog bite

  • A man was walking about 5 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of West Belden Avenue when a dog walked toward him and bit him on his arm, leaving a small cut. The dog's owner showed proof of a current rabies shot.

Scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Emery Lane received a phone call Wednesday from someone believed to be from Coinbase about suspicious activity on his cryptocurrency account. The resident later found his account was missing cryptocurrency. An investigation is pending.

Bicycle found

  • A Next Breakpoint bicycle was left Saturday in the parking lot at 7-Eleven convenience store, 525 Spring Road. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Vandalism

  • An officer spotted graffiti on a detached garage of a house about 10 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Riverside Avenue.

Fugitive drivers

  • About 9 p.m. Thursday, an officer tried to stop the rider of a gray motorcycle with no license plates for driving on the shoulder near Route 83 and North Avenue. The rider sped away, heading south on Route 83.
  • About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, an officer tried to stop the driver of a Nissan Maxima with an expired registration and heavily tinted windows at Michigan and North. The driver sped away.
  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a vehicle about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Route 83 and North. The driver sped away, last seen heading north on Route 83.
