Eatery Ruckus, Worker Feud: Elmhurst Cops

A suspect was given a no-trespass notice after causing a disturbance at a restaurant, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a restaurant disturbance, an argument between employees, a crash into a house, burglaries, threatening messages, missing money, damage and a scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Disturbance

  • Police responded to a disturbance about 1 p.m. Saturday at Rainbow Cafe, 254 N. York St. The suspect was given a no-trespass notice.

  • Officers restored peace after an argument between truck drivers and security over parking restrictions at Super Ego Holding, 677 N. Larch Ave.

Crash into house

  • An 82-year-old man from Lombard crashed into a house about noon Oct. 9 in the 400 block of Berteau.

Burglaries

  • Police received a report of a burglary to a car about 9 p.m. Oct. 10 in the 400 block of North Larch Avenue. The victim told officers three or four people dressed in black were trying to break into cars. Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood, but were unable to find the suspects. Nothing was stolen from the car. An investigation is pending.
  • Someone entered an unlocked garage of a house under construction and stole an electric lawnmower about 5 p.m. Friday. The next day, the resident noticed a trampoline missing from the backyard. An investigation is pending.

Bicycle found

  • A silver Magna brand bicycle was found about 7 a.m. Oct. 9 on the front lawn of a house in the 400 block of East South Street. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Columbia Avenue told police Oct. 9 about receiving threatening messages from a suspect. The suspect was told not to have further contact with the resident.
  • A resident in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue told police Thursday that she received a number of notifications from someone trying to use her information to obtain credit to buy a car. The resident said she informed the dealership in question and spoke to Sterling police. The resident later received a threatening text message from the suspect. An investigation is pending.

Missing money

  • A woman in the 400 block of North York Street told police she was missing money from a bedroom and that she believed one of her caretakers may have stolen it. An investigation is pending.

Damage

  • Two basement windows were reported broken Oct. 10 in the 700 block of North Emroy Avenue. The damage was believed to have occurred Sept. 26. An investigation is pending.

Scam

  • A resident in the 1000 block of South York Street told police Oct. 10 that she received a message on her computer with a phone number about her identity being stolen. The resident called the number and was told to go to the bank and transfer her money to a different account number provided by the suspect. The resident transferred the money. An investigation is pending.

Harassment

  • A resident went on a date with a person and then started receiving messages from multiple unknown numbers after blocking the suspect's number. The suspect was told to stop contacting the resident. The report was filed Oct. 10.

Porch piracy

  • A package was stolen between 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and noon Thursday at Elmhurst University's West Hall, 190 S. Prospect Ave.

Repossession

  • A car was removed by an unknown tow truck about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of West St. Charles Road. The owner did not ask for it to be towed. It had been parked on the property for several months. The car was later determined to have been repossessed.

Check fraud

  • A business in the 200 block of West Wrightwood sent a check to Sun Noodle Co. and later discovered it had been washed and signed under a suspect's name. An investigation is pending. The report was filed Sunday.
