Eight Arrested After Elmhurst Car Theft, Hit And Run: Cops

Eight people are in custody after incidents of auto theft and hit and run that took place in Elmhurst.

ELMHURST, IL — Eight people are in custody after incidents of auto theft and hit and run that took place in Elmhurst. Police said there were two separate pursuits that began around 3:15 p.m. Dec. 20 in the 200 block of Grantley.

Police said they received a report that several people stole a 2016 Infinity that was parked in the driveway of a home. The home's resident confronted the thieves, but they fled the scene in their vehicle and struck another car near North Avenue and Emroy.

Police said they stopped the car that was involved in the chase and apprehended seven people at Second and Addison following a brief foot chase. A short time later, the car that was stolen from the Elmhurst driveway was recovered at Des Plaines and Jackson in Forest Park. The driver of the stolen car had hit an apartment building and was taken into custody, police said.

Police continue to investigate and said there were no injuries reported.
