Elmhurst Band Breaks Up After Sexual Abuse Allegations

Local band "The Orwells" have disbanded after sexual abuse and misconduct allegations.

ELMHURST, IL — The Orwells, a band that got its start in Elmhurst, have disbanded after allegations of misconduct and sexual abuse. The band broke the news via its Twitter, simply tweeting "The Orwells have disbanded" on Wednesday.

The band consists of members Mario Cuomo, Dominic Corso, Matt O'Keefe, Grant Brinner and Henry Brinner. The band began when all the members met at their Elmhurst high school.

The allegations of misconduct were made against Cuomo and Henry and Grant Brinner, according to social media reports.

Before disbanding, the band had released a statement denying the allegations of abuse.

"We emphatically deny these baseless allegations brought as a personal attack against us," the statement read. The band said that no member had ever acted without consent or maliciously taken advantage of anyone.

The Orwells had recently canceled a show in November at the Metro in Chicago due to the allegations.
