On St. Charles Road, a couple of Elmhurst officers deployed tire deflation devices, which disabled the Nissan's driver's side tires, police said.

A short time later, the car came to a stop and Harris ran away, police said. But a state trooper and Bensenville officer apprehended him near York Street's Interstate 290 ramp, police said.

The Nissan was a rental car with the rear license plate removed and the front plate bent upward, police said.

Smith was charged with attempted burglary and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Harris was charged with attempted burglary, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, driving without registration, disobeying a traffic signal, improper lighting and disobeying a stop sign.
