Elmhurst Business Scammed Out Of Money: Cops

The fraud involved an employee's paycheck, according to a police report.

ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst business lost money last week after receiving a fraudulent email, police said.

According to a police report, the bookkeeper at Inter Ocean Cabinet Co., 920 N. Larch Ave., received an email from a person purporting to be an employee.

The person requested a change to his banking information for his direct deposit, police said. The bookkeeper changed the information to the account number provided in the email.

The bookkeeper later learned the email was fraudulent. The employer has since paid back the lost wages, police said.
