Elmhurst Charges Trio In Vehicle Thefts
The men were stealing vehicles around the suburbs, police said. Two had been charged with such crimes last year.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police said they have charged three men in connection with thefts of vehicles in the suburbs.
The men are Kamil Spieczynski, 37, of Algonquin; Sebastian Nawrot, 25, of Bensenville; and Mateusz Wojtowicz, 23, of Chicago.
Shortly after midnight Feb. 1, a business reported an overnight theft of a flatbed trailer from a fenced parking lot in the 500 block of North Michigan Street in Elmhurst, according to a local police news release.

With video surveillance and license plate readers, detectives determined that a Ford pickup truck just stolen in neighboring Northlake was used to remove the trailer, police said. Spierczynski was a former employee of the Northlake business where the Ford truck was stolen, having access to the keys, police said.
Detectives discovered that a black Toyota Prius registered to Spieczynski was near the site of the theft, the release said.

In December, Algonquin police arrested Spieczynski and Wojtowicz on charges of possession of stolen vehicles, police said.
Early on the morning of Feb. 13, Elmhurst and Bensenville police conducted surveillance of the Toyota Prius and saw the three men steal two Volvo semi-truck tractors from a lot in the 600 block of Route 83 in Bensenville, according to the news release.
One of the trucks became disabled in the mud and was abandoned, with Nawrot driving the remaining truck and the other two men in the Prius, police said.
State police tried to stop the stolen truck, but Nawrot fled, authorities said. The truck was later found abandoned near Covered Bridge and Barrington roads in South Barrington.
Elmhurst police attempted to stop the Prius, but the driver sped away, police said. It was abandoned on Liberty Drive in South Barrington. Spierczynski was found in a nearby field, where he was arrested.
Elmhurst detectives investigated a truck parking lot in Woodstock where Spierczynski had been renting space. They found two stolen vehicles – a 2020 Ford Transit Van and a 2017 Maserati Levante SUV.
On Tuesday, Elmhurst police located Nawrot and Wojtowicz driving in town and arrested them when they parked their car on Park Avenue east of York Street.
The men were each charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle valued at $25,000 or more.
Spierczynski faces an additional felony charge of possession of burglary tools.
A DuPage County judge released the men pending a trial.
