Elmhurst Citizens Police Academy Begins March 9

Learn how the department operates day to day.

The Elmhurst Police Department is offering its 12-week program designed to give citizens a working knowledge of law enforcement and the Elmhurst Police Department.

The program is offered free of charge and is limited to 25 students per session. Applicants must be over the age of 21. One block of instruction is offered each week, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Each block of instruction will provide an in-depth view of how a particular division of the department functions. The program will be both informative and educational, at times allowing students hands-on training.

The Citizen’s Police Academy will provide an excellent opportunity for citizens who live or work in the city of Elmhurst to become acquainted with how the department operates on a day-to-day basis. Upon completion of the academy, participants will have a better understanding of personnel issues, procedures, responsibilities, demands, equipment and the laws that influence the department’s decisions.

Classes will start on Wednesday March 9, and end on Wednesday, May 25. A graduation will be held on June 1.

Classes include:

  • Laws of Arrest
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Crime Scene Analysis
  • Investigations
  • Interviewing and Interrogation
