Elmhurst College Bands Offer Free Concert

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present their Winter Band Concert on Sunday, March 15, just a few days before winter officially ends.

Under the direction of John Heath, the Symphonic Band will perform “Flashing Winds” by Jan Van der Roost, and feature others works such as Percy Grainger’s “Spoon River” and H. Owen Reed’s “La Fiesta Mexicana,” and will end with Roland Seitz’s “March ‘Grandioso.’”

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of James Hile, will open its portion of the program with “Ecstatic Fanfare” by Steven Bryant and “Aurora Awakes” by John Mackey. Christian Sanchez ’22, a sophomore jazz studies major and saxophone player, will be featured on Bernhard Heiden’s “Diversion.” Other works will include Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore,” Omar Thomas’ “Come Sunday” and “Free Lance March” by John Philip Sousa.

The Winter Band Concert will begin at 2 p.m. March 15 in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel, 190 Prospect Ave. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information, contact James Hile at 630-617-3520 or james.hile@elmhurst.edu.
