The man was driving a car linked to burglaries in Western Springs, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – An armed man driving a car believed to have been used in burglaries in Western Springs was caught Saturday in Elmhurst, police said.

About 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Elmhurst officers saw a car suspected of being involved in burglaries in Western Springs in a parking lot at North Avenue and Villa Road, DuPage County prosecutors said.

Within reach of Jones, the officers found a loaded, holstered 9mm Sig Sauer P365 pistol with 10 rounds in the magazine, police said. The gun had been reported stolen in a Countryside house burglary.
Jones is on probation for burglary in DuPage County and on parole for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in Cook County, prosecutors said. He has previous convictions for robbery and burglary in Cook County, police said.
"It is alleged that Mr. Jones, who is currently on probation and parole, was not only in possession of a loaded weapon, but that he also ran through a residential neighborhood with that loaded weapon in an attempt to avoid apprehension," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "Due to Mr. Jones’ past criminal activity, however, he has lost his Second Amendment right to lawfully possess a firearm."
Jones was charged with being an armed habitual criminal, a felony. At prosecutors' request, a DuPage County judge denied bail for Jones.
