Elmhurst Coronavirus: Police Worker Tests Positive
The employee was notified of the diagnosis Monday and immediately informed officials, the city said.
ELMHURST, IL — One of the civilian employees of the Elmhurst Police Department has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the city announced in a news release late Monday. The employee was notified of the diagnosis Monday and immediately informed the police chief and city manager, the release said.
The employee's work station was partitioned by glass and the employee did not have direct public contact, the city said. The employee's last day at work was last Thursday, after which the police station was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, the release said.
City Manager Jim Grabowski has issued an immediate order for all employees in close contact with the employee to self-quarantine for 14-days as called for under guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On Thursday night, the police station was to undergo additional and immediate sanitization procedures, the city said.

Several weeks ago, the city canceled all nonessential events and meetings. Last week, all city facilities began restricting public access.
