Elmhurst D-205 'Shocked' By Texas Shooting

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 is "shocked and deeply saddened" by the news of the school shooting in Texas, the superintendent said Wednesday.

"We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence," Superintendent Keisha Campbell said in a statement.

Nineteen children and two adults were reported killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Children and teens, Campbell said, process such news in different ways. She said the school's social workers, psychologists and counselors are available for students who might need extra help processing the events.

The school district has teamed up with Elmhurst police to prepare for the possibility of school-related incidents, Campbell said.

Recently, nearly 100 members of the district's teams recently trained to use Comprehensive School Threat Assessment protocols, the superintendent said. It is one of the only evidence-based programs for threat assessment in the country, she said.
