Elmhurst D205 Reduces Vacancies This Year
The district gave a rundown of its vacancy rates compared to last year.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 has fewer vacancies this year, an official said Tuesday.
Now, the school district has just one teacher opening. That's out of about 600 teachers.
The average teacher salary in Elmhurst is nearly $91,000, well above the $74,000 state average, according to the Illinois Report Card.

As for teacher's aides, 85 percent of positions are filled. That's higher than the 79 percent last year at this time.
In recent years, area school districts have struggled to find teacher's aides, so many have increased pay. In 2022, District 205 gave aides a 14 percent raise.

"We continue to see less vacancies to start the year compared to prior years as we look at historical data," Joseph Schumacher, assistant superintendent of human resources, told the school board.
Among custodians and maintenance employees, 98 percent of positions are filled, Schumacher said. Last year, the rate was 94 percent at this time.
In the last year, the pool of substitute teachers has increased nearly 5 percent, Schumacher said. The total is 128.
"We will continue to advertise, select and recruit candidates that will support our mission, values and vision," he said.
