Elmhurst Fire Department Awarded Grant for Shared Emergency Driver Simulator
The Driver Simulator for Emergency Vehicles will increase safety by allowing the Fire Department to practice defensive driving skills.

The City of Elmhurst Fire Department was recently named the recipient of a federal grant through the Department of Homeland Security.
The regional grant, given to the Addison Fire Protection District and advocated by U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), awards $218,182 for an emergency vehicles driver simulator which will be shared between twelve area fire Districts/Departments, including Elmhurst.

The Driver Simulator for Emergency Vehicles will increase safety by allowing the Fire Department to practice defensive driving skills without jeopardizing the public.
This valuable training resource will be shared by first-responders throughout the region including the following departments: Addison Fire Protection District, Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, Glenside Fire Protection District, Streamwood Fire Department, Villa Park Fire Department, Lombard Fire Department, Oak Brook Terrace Fire Protection District, York Center Fire Protection District, Itasca Fire Protection District, Wood Dale Fire Protection District, Elmhurst Fire Protection District and the Bensenville Fire Protection District.

The Elmhurst Fire Department was also awarded federal grant money to replace 38 Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses used by firefighters and rescue workers during emergencies.
