Elmhurst Garden Club Installs Butterfly and Tomato Gardens at Ray Graham

Clover's Garden Center, Club Members and YCHS students assist with the new gardens

At the request of Ray Graham Executive Board Member and Elmhurst Garden Club (EGC) Member Teri Litavsky, the Elmhurst Garden Club was asked to assist in developing the landscape of the Ray Graham property. On Friday, June 12, EGC members planted a butterfly garden and a bed of tomato plants at the site. The landscape improvement projects were made possible by plant donations from Clover’s Garden Center, York Community High School Garden Club, EGC members Kim Messina and Pat Miller, and well as time and talent from numerous EGC members. Club member Lynn Baralt and her associates have designed a landscape plan for the property. Part of Elmhurst Garden Club’s mission statement to aid in the protection of the environment and to encourage civic beautification. Ray Graham Association was founded more than 60 years ago by a few families to speak up for (empower) individuals with disabilities. This Association serves approximately 2,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families throughout DuPage County and the surrounding area. Ray Graham offers a broad array of educational, vocational, community, respite, early intervention, recreational, home-based and residential programs and services. The service offered, depends on the individual’s need. Elmhurst Garden Club, with more than 100 members, is open to anyone interested in gardening. Annual dues are $35. Most meetings are held at Wilder Mansion on the first Monday of the month. Each month a program on some facet of gardening, floral design, ecology and conservation are presented.
