Elmhurst Gas Station May Be Razed, Rebuilt

ELMHURST, IL – The owner of an Elmhurst gas station is asking for permission to demolish the structure and build anew.

The BP gas station is at 217 E. Butterfield Road, run by St. Charles-based Pride Stores.

The new station is set to include outdoor seating and a second fuel canopy.

Under the plan, the gas station would be open around the clock. Now, it closes at 10 p.m.

According to its application, the developer will enhance the site and upgrade an outdated gas station and car repair facility.

"The project will greatly improve the aesthetics of the commercial area and will be a welcome amenity to the Elmhurst community," the application said.

The station, which includes a quick-service restaurant, is across from the Jewel grocery store at 944 S. York St.

The city's Zoning and Planning Commission is set to review the proposal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.
