“Pigskin Peanuts”

Calling kids and comics fans of all ages for a summer of fun with the Peanuts gang. “Pigskin Peanuts,” a traveling exhibition organized by the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA, showcases 50 of Schulz’s popular football-themed Sunday and daily strips depicting the cartoonist’s wry humor through the exploits of the beloved Peanuts characters. Visitors will experience classic Peanuts objects and memorabilia, plus interactive activity stations: dress up in the team locker room, snap a football trading card photo, and try out Lucy’s infamous “Fall Classic” by pulling the football from Charlie Brown.

Ongoing exhibit

“By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst”

Take a journey of discovery that shows how Elmhurst has changed and grown over the past 165 years. Explore this innovative, interactive new exhibit that tells the story of Elmhurst from its earliest days to the present. Experience engaging displays featuring eclectic collection objects, photos, and video integrated with the latest museum technology. Travel through time via an interactive tabletop map of Elmhurst, watch two large photos of historic Elmhurst scenes jump to life, and view an original documentary in the mini-theatre narrated by Bob Sirott. This exhibit was made possible through support from the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation.

The new “By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst” exhibit is chock-full of history! Join a curator or community member for a gallery talk series in the second floor gallery that focuses on different aspects of the new exhibit each month—homing in on varying themes that make Elmhurst unique. This month, curator of exhibits Lance Tawzer will explore the exhibit theme “Work.”

Elmhurst is fortunate to have diverse domestic architecture that ranges from the Romanesque to International style. Walk with architecture specialist and art educator Robert Bunda around Elmhurst to examine some eclectic architectural gems. Tours depart from the Elmhurst Art Museum and end at the Elmhurst Historical Museum. Participants will receive a $5 Elmhurst City Centre coupon good for the day of the tour. Hop off the train and pick up a picnic dinner in Elmhurst City Centre to enjoy on the museum grounds (weather permitting). Listen to live music, and tour the “Pigskin Peanuts” and“Beyond All Accounts” exhibits. Complimentary dessert and free admission. BYO blanket or chairs, limited number of picnic tables available.
