Elmhurst Hospital EMS May "Run of the Month" to Elmhurst Fire Dept.

Paramedics Danielle Fernandez and Sarah Hand, and Firefighters Patrick Evoy, Lt. Jeff Hayes, Gary Klecka and Tim Lisowski were honored.

Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has awarded its “Run of the Month” for May 2017 to the Elmhurst Fire Department.

Paramedics Danielle Fernandez and Sarah Hand, and Firefighters Patrick Evoy, Lt. Jeff Hayes, Gary Klecka and Tim Lisowski were recognized for their care of an 80-year-old man who fell while at church and was no longer breathing.

When the crew arrived, bystanders were performing CPR. Paramedic Hand continued CPR and then Paramedic Fernandez delivered a shock from an Automated External Defibrillator, after which the patient was breathing and had a pulse. The paramedics provided additional treatment in the ambulance while on the way to Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Department. The patient was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital and released a few days later.

In the “Run of the Month” program, Elmhurst Hospital’s EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital providers and selects one to be recognized based on the following criteria:

--Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Department staff

--Clear and thorough documentation

--Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation

--Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field

--Superior partnership and teamwork with Elmhurst Hospital
