Officer Laurie Shelton of the Addison Police Department has been named the 2018 Elmhurst Hospital Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Officer Shelton was honored in a ceremony at Elmhurst Hospital’s monthly Management Team meeting on Sept. 18.

Over an 11-year career, Shelton has worked as a patrol officer and in investigations as a school liaison with Addison Elementary School District 4. According to Officer Shelton’s nomination information, she strives to make positive connections every day with the public, especially kids. She volunteers her time with TOP soccer, an organization that assists children with special needs. Along with other officers, she’s donated money to help an autistic resident whose bike was stolen. She is a member of the Addison Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team and is a member of the department’s Honor Guard.

The Officer of the Year Award is part of Edward-Elmhurst Health’s Law Enforcement Recognition Program, which is an initiative to show support for the system’s partners in law enforcement throughout the region. The award is open to 15 police departments in Elmhurst Hospital’s service area, including Addison, Bensenville, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lombard and Oak Park.
