Elmhurst Hosts Commissioner Appreciation Event

ELMHURST, IL — On Thursday, March 1, the city hosted a "Commissioner Appreciation Event" at the Elmhurst Art Museum. The city said the event was organized to recognize and formally thank all volunteer Commissioners and board members for the work that they do for the city. Approximately 100 were in attendance, including elected officials, commissioners and city staff.

City commissioners received a "City Commissioner Challenge Coin" as a token of gratitude. According to the city, Mayor Morley presented the first "Darrell Whistler Service Award" to Phillip Jordan for his many years of loyal and distinguished service to the city. The "Darrell Whistler Service Award" will continue to be the highest form of recognition given to a volunteer who has gone above and beyond in their outstanding commitment to the City of Elmhurst.

According to the city, Darrell Whistler was an exceptional example of a resident who worked tirelessly to serve the City of Elmhurst. Whistler played a major role in the city’s transformation during his tenure as Chairman of the Zoning and Planning Commission. The city said Whistler’s commitment and leadership, along with his professional and personal investment, will forever be a part of the legacy of Elmhurst. He represented the City of Elmhurst with the qualities of a true leader, exhibiting a firm and fair approach to planning and zoning cases.

The Darrell Whistler Service Award goes to people, like Darrell, who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to the City of Elmhurst.
