Elmhurst Job Seeker Encounters Scam: Cops

The resident received a check from a so-called employer and was asked to deposit it, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst resident looking for a job called police after dealing with a so-called employer, authorities said.

The man, who lives in the 100 block of East Crestview Avenue, told police that he submitted an application for a job in response to a website posting.

He received a call from someone associated with the posting, who asked for his personal information, police said.

The resident later received a check in the mail and was instructed to deposit it into his bank account.

The man then determined the check and job posting were fraudulent, police said.
