Elmhurst League Of Women Voters Holds March Program

The League will show the film "Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA." There will be a discussion afterwards.

ELMHURST, IL — Join the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst on Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., as they show the film "Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA." There will be a discussion afterwards.

According to the league, there are several parts of the film with mass shootings and trafficking will be the focus of this evening’s showing. Another short film, "Unlabeled: The Most Dangerous Product on the American Market" will also be shown. Discussion will focus on what can be done to put an end to this profit-driven crisis. The post film audience participation session will focus on ways to make voices heard in local communities and at the State and Federal level.

The league said to curb the proliferation of the private ownership of handguns and their irresponsible use, the League supports a ban on the further manufacture, sale, transportation and importation of handguns and their parts. The League advocates restricting access to automatic and semi-automatic assault type weapons. The League believes that it is essential to restrict or prohibit the possession and sale, manufacture, importation and transportation of semi-automatic assault type weapons for private ownership. Additionally, the sale of ammunition for these weapons should be restricted or prohibited. According to the league, it favors restrictive legislation at both the state and federal levels.
