Elmhurst Man Steals U.S. Flag: Cops
In another case, a local man was arrested on drug charges, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a stolen flag, drug possession, damage, harassment, a fire, burglary and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Stolen flag
- A 36-year-old man from the 600 block of West Fay Avenue in Elmhurst was arrested shortly before midnight Tuesday on charges of theft and prowling. After officers were called about a suspicious person, they found that the man had stolen an American flag from a business in the 200 block of North West Avenue. He was released on bond.
Drug possession

- James T. McElligot, 46, of the 700 block of North Emroy Avenue in Elmhurst, was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday at York Street and Fullerton Avenue on charges of possession of a controlled substance, felony unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving a vehicle while using a phone. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Damage
- Someone broke the passenger side window of a woman's car and stole the car's catalytic converter between Friday and Tuesday in the 900 block of North Larch Avenue.

- A resident in the 100 block of North Willow Road told police Tuesday that he had been receiving aggressive text messages from an unknown number since his wife's phone had been stolen a few days earlier. An investigation is pending.
Fire
- Firefighters put out a fire about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Garfield Avenue. Workers were installing a new roof on a house. They used a blowtorch on the roof seams, causing a small fire.
Burglary
- A woman told police that her brother broke into her apartment in the 300 block of South West Avenue and stole her property about 3 p.m. Tuesday. An investigation is pending.
Theft
- Someone stole a catalytic converter from a company truck between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6 at Vital Signs, 791 N. Industrial Drive. An investigation is pending.
Suspicious
- Two teens are believed to have left a dark gray chair with wheels on a resident's patio along with a yellow thank-you card taped to it about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue. An investigation is pending.
