Pedestrian Killed On Elmhurst Railroad Tracks: Cops

The man stepped onto the tracks as a train was approaching, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a train early Friday morning in Elmhurst, local police said.

The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. at the railroad tracks near First Street and West Avenue, police said.

Witnesses told police the man stepped onto the railroad tracks as the train approached.

Train traffic was suspended in both directions as emergency crews worked in the area, police said. Train service was restored about 6 a.m., with Metra trains running on a delayed schedule. The intersection was closed to traffic and reopened at 7:45 a.m.

Elmhurst police and the DuPage County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.

Identification of the man is being withheld pending notification of the family.
