Elmhurst Plans 9/11 Memorial At Fire Station

Firefighters will raise money for the effort, with a local sculptor commissioned, the city said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst firefighters plan a public sculpture to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

A piece of rail from the twin towers has been given to the city, according to an Elmhurst news release.

Local sculptor Jason Peot will create a vibrant and multi-faceted memorial near fire station No. 2 at 605 S. York St., the release said.

To complete the project, firefighters need to raise about $150,000, the city said. They plan to seek support for the effort over the next several months.

It is hoped the memorial can be created and installed by Sept. 11, 2024.
