Elmhurst Police Car Struck, But Suspect Got Away: Cops

ELMHURST, IL – A driver struck an Elmhurst police car earlier this week, but got away, authorities said.

About 7:30 a.m. Monday, a police officer was investigating a situation of a possible drunken driver when the driver of a silver GMC Envoy hit the officer's car and a red Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, police said.

The driver then sped away. A woman followed the suspect in another car, exchanged cars with him and was then apprehended by officers, police said.

The woman was identified as Nya D. Wilkins, 21, of Harvey. She was charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and driving an uninsured vehicle. She was released on bond.

The incident was listed as happening in the 400 block of North York Street.

Police said they would seek a warrant against the fugitive driver.
