Elmhurst Police Correct False Information: Statement

Internet posts reported a local shooting that never happened, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police said they were made aware Thursday morning of false posts on a private neighborhood safety and security app in Elmhurst.

The posts reported a shooting being investigated on Gladys Avenue near Berens Park, but police said in a statement that no such incident happened.

The posts contained incorrect address numbers that match Chicago, not Elmhurst, police said.

The police department said it has reported the false posts to the app's administrators and requested they be removed. The police did not name the app.

Anyone with information about the posts is asked to call the police at 630-530-3050.
