Elmhurst Police Phone Solicitations? Not Happening

Businesses are getting scam calls about purported city programs, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst Police Department has no "Shop With a Cop Back to School Program." And the Elmhurst Fire Department has no "Stop, Drop & Roll Program."

However, scammers would have you believe that such programs exist, the city said in a Facebook post this week. In recent days, Elmhurst police have received reports from local businesses about receiving phone calls purporting to be from the local police and fire departments.

One caller requested a $50 donation for the back to school program. Shortly after, a second business got a call about the supposed fire department program.
