Elmhurst Police Plan Roadside Safety Checkpoint

The roadside safety checkpoint will take place on a major roadway in Elmhurst starting at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 19.

ELMHURST, IL —The Elmhurst Police Department continues to take part in a year-long traffic enforcement grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint starting Oct. 19 as part of that grant, the department said. The goal of the grant is to save lives by reducing fatal and serious injury crashes through additional enforcement of DUI and seat belt laws.

The department said periodic roadside safety checkpoints are being set up throughout the year as part of the grant, and vehicles are stopped at a predetermined interval and checked for violations. These checkpoints have proven to be a significant deterrent to impaired driving.

The roadside safety checkpoint will take place on a major roadway in Elmhurst starting at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and will continue until 3:30 a.m. Oct. 20.
