Elmhurst Prepares For Possible Severe Weather

Severe weather with heavy rain is possible Tuesday night.

ELMHURST, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch with heavy rains anticipated Tuesday night. The city said it is encouraging residents to stay aware of local forecasts and be prepared to act quickly if storm warnings are issued.

The Streets Division has prepared pallets of sandbags for resident pick-up and use. According to the city, there are additional sandbags, shovels, and sand available for residents to fill if necessary. These materials are available in the parking lot of the Public Works Garage. Low-lying areas and inlets have been checked, and several cycles of city street sweeping have been completed. Residents can assist the city by helping to keep inlets clear of debris. The city’s series of completed stormwater mitigation projects have been working as designed to reduce overland flooding.

Residents should call 1-800-EDISON1 in the event of power outages or report the outage via ComEd.om or via the ComEd app on their mobile devices. For their safety they should stay away from all downed power lines and call 911 should they feel there is immediate danger.
