Elmhurst's Tekki Lomnicki directs latest production featuring nine performers with disabilities including Molly Wiesman of Elmhurst May 7-23
The latest offering from Tellin' Tales Theatre - Divercity - is presented VIRTUALLY for two weeks - May 7-23 on Vimeo. Elmhurst native Tekki Lomnicki, founder and artistic director of Tellin' Tales Theatre, directed nine writers, actors and advocates with disabilities in a six-week Zoom master class. The performers present their stories, ranging from touching to hilarious, in virtual solo performances. Tickets range from $10-$20 and are available at www.tellintales.org along with information about the show and Tellin' Tales Theatre.
Among the performers from Chicago, Evanston, Merrillville, and Georgia is Molly Wiesman of Elmhurst who has been involved in Tellin' Tales Theatre for the last 20 years, currently as a member of the Ensemble and as a member of the Board of Directors. She has performed in the Tellin' Tales Theatre Six Stories Up shows, the Young Adult Workshops, Divercity and Freedom: Out of Order, the last done in conjunction with Lyric Opera of Chicago. Wiesman has been involved with a variety of disability organizations including Easter Seals DuPage, JJ's List, Best Buddies International and was an ADA 25 Leadership Fellow in 2019.
Tekki Lomnicki, a person with a disability, co-founded Tellin' Tales Theatre 25 years ago to create better understanding between the disabled and non-disabled worlds through the power of personal story. She is a writer, director, solo performer, presenter and teacher who produces several productions a year with Tellin' Tales Theatre - all while working full-time as an advertising copy writer. These productions include performers with and without disabilities with the exception of Divercity, which only has cast members with a disability. Lomnicki has received many honors for her life's work; in 2016 she was named a Duke of Distinction at York Community High School in Elmhurst. She is currently working on a new full-length musical spotlighting the disability experience.
