Theft Suspect In Elmhurst Chase Had 3 Guns: Cops

The passenger was caught, but the driver got away, police said. Residents were told to stay inside during the search.

ELMHURST, IL – A man driving a stolen car was chased late Tuesday night from Villa Park into Elmhurst, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Elmhurst police responded to help Villa Park police pursue a white BMW sedan that had been reported stolen, according to an Elmhurst police news release.

The driver headed east on North Avenue, then east on Interstate 290, police said. Then the car became disabled on I-290, east of Vallette Street, near the Elmhurst-Berkeley border.

The driver ran away, police said. He was described as a black man wearing a green hooded sweatshirt.

A passenger, 25-year-old Chicago resident Jermaine Porter, was taken into custody, police said. He was charged by Villa Park police with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unlawful use or possession of weapons by a convicted felon.

Three guns were found inside the car, according to the news release.

A police helicopter and four police K-9 units were deployed in the search in southeast Elmhurst, police said.

About 12:30 a.m., police completed their search, unable to find the suspect.

Elmhurst residents near the search were told to stay inside with their doors locked during the search.
