This Elmhurst School Sees More Bad Behavior On Thursdays
Every week, disciplinary problems emerge around this time, an official says.
ELMHURST, IL – Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst sees a spike in disciplinary issues on Thursday afternoons, an official said Tuesday.
This information came as a result of an analysis of all behavioral incidents for the entire school year, Assistant Superintendent Kevin Rubenstein said at a school board meeting.
He commended Principal Jacquelyn Discipio for looking into the matter.

"There is something going on at Bryan Middle School on Thursday afternoons, so we're talking about how to support better behavior, especially in the afternoons," Rubenstein said. "What that means then is to be proactive. We need to work with students, so they are reminded of appropriate behaviors on Thursday mornings."
He also said Discipio was honest that the problem is not just on the students, but also on the teachers. By Thursday afternoon, the teachers have a feeling that it's getting toward the end of the week, he said.

Rubenstein gave the example of Bryan in response to a question from school board member Athena Arvanitis. She asked about how Elmhurst School District 205 was approaching changes in dealing with behavior and academic performance at specific schools.
Rubenstein said the district undergoes "proactive progress monitoring" to track issues and find solutions.
"We need to make sure all of our teams understand our data and our systems a whole lot better," he said.
By bringing up Bryan, Rubenstein was not suggesting that disciplinary issues were any worse at Bryan than at other schools.
