Elmhurst Sees Biggest Virus Hike In Nearly Year: County
The city experiences no new coronavirus deaths in the last week.
ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst just saw its highest weekly total in new coronavirus cases since early January, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, the city had seen 5,612 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 151 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 76 new cases. In early January, Elmhurst saw a weekly total of 174 new coronavirus cases.
Last week, Elmhurst Hospital reported that it had 28 coronavirus patients, the most in three months.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 71. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.3 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 121 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 103 in Darien, 117 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 120 in La Grange Park, 126 in Clarendon Hills, 127 in suburban Cook County, 128 in La Grange and 130 in Western Springs.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,835,076, a 2.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,535.
Nationally, 48.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 2.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 784,893 people have died from the virus in the United States.
