Elmhurst Shooting Suspect Arrested

A man recklessly fired his handgun several times, striking an Elmhurst hotel, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A Lisle man was arrested late last week in connection with a shooting in Elmhurst that resulted in a bullet going through a hotel window, police said.

Kyle V. Lochman, 21, who lives in the 400 block of Cliff Court in Lisle, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail, but a judge released him.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, Elmhurst police responded to reported gunshots near Courtyard by Marriott hotel, 370 N. Route 83.

Witnesses at the hotel told officers about the gunshots from the Route 83 side of the building.

Shortly after, a hotel guest came down to the lobby to tell officers that a bullet had gone through their third-floor window at the time of the incident, police said. No one was struck.

Police determined a 9mm bullet had gone through the window and struck the headboard of a bed, according to an Elmhurst news release Monday. Another bullet hit the building's outside concrete wall, police said.

About 4:30 a.m., a resident on James Court in Glendale Heights, near North Avenue, called 911 about a suspicious car parked in the neighborhood, police said.

Glendale Heights police found two men asleep in a Lexus sedan with a handgun and shell casings visible inside, according to the news release. They contacted Elmhurst police.

A search of automated license plate reader cameras determined the Lexus went by the hotel at the time of the shooting, police said.

Lochman was returning from a casino and recklessly fired his Glock handgun several times outside the sedan's passenger side, police said.

Elmhurst police thanked the Glendale Heights resident for calling 911 about the suspicious car.
