Elmhurst Squad Car Totaled, To Be Replaced

The city is waiving the bid process because of supply chain issues.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst aldermen decided Monday to replace a police car that was totaled.

Alderman Michael Honquest said the squad car was hit, but gave no other details. The crash was in January 2022.

At its meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to waive the bid process.

"We are working with the insurance company to get that replaced," Honquest said. "But in the meantime, as we are doing with all of our vehicles because of supply shortages, we want to move this forward quickly, so we can get a replacement vehicle ordered while we work through the financials."

With the council's decision, the city plans to buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander for $45,500 at Classic Toyota in Waukegan. It is replacing the totaled 2015 Highlander.

According to a city resolution, Classic Toyota will deliver the Highlander immediately upon payment.
