Elmhurst Stormwater Money May Shift To Other Purposes
In 2021, the city prioritized a list of a dozen stormwater projects, according to a memo.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is looking at the possibility of moving money set aside for stormwater projects to the city's main account, which pays for the city's day-to-day operations.
In 2021, the city prioritized a list of a dozen stormwater projects, some of which are in the city's five- to 10-year stormwater funding plan. A particular sales tax is dedicated to this work, three aldermen said in a memo last month.
"However, it has been a while since these projects were reviewed for cost estimates, design approach and viability and therefore if they make sense from a cost/home policy perspective," the memo said.

Money for projects that aren't considered priorities can be moved to other city accounts, the memo said. It is unclear which projects would be affected in such a scenario.
Last fall, Elmhurst officials revealed that the city was facing a budget crunch.

The memo was signed by aldermen Emily Bastedo, Mike Brennan and Noel Talluto.
The matter goes before the City Council's public works committee, which meets at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
