ELMHURST — The Elmhurst Symphony Association (ESA) is proud to announce that the season finale performance of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra (ESO), Beethoven 9, drew a record-breaking crowd on May 6, 2023. With total attendance nearing capacity, the Elmhurst Symphony wowed the crowd with an exuberant performance including a full orchestra, chorus, and soloist musicians and singers. Previously, the highest attended concert had been the well-received “The Beatles and Friends”, held on October 1, 2016.

"That was an amazing experience,” remarked longtime ESO supporter Karen Pachyn. “What a monumental success that concert was. Just to be there to hear the thunderous applause at the end was exhilarating. We always look forward to the concerts where both the Orchestra and the Choirs will be performing and this certainly did not disappoint. Congratulations to Maestro Alltop and everyone who had a part in putting on the lastest concert. We are so fortunate to have a group of this caliber within our own community."

Executive Director Gregory Hughes noted that an excellent program paired with an aggressive marketing campaign contributed to such a large turnout. “Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is an incredibly powerful piece of music that really moves people — it really feeds your soul in a way only music can,” Hughes remarked. “It was also wonderful to be joined by the Apollo Chorus, the Elmhurst Choral Union, and talented soloists. Anytime excellent ensembles like those come together to perform, you know you’re in for something special.”
