Elmhurst Teen Cited After Her Purse Found: Cops

The purse's contents led to the resident being charged, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a found purse, a man pulling door handles, a burglary, a man found inside a storage unit, shattered glass, a restaurant dumpster fire and an egging. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Found purse

  • A 19-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 200 block of West Vallette Street was cited Wednesday on charges of possession of tobacco by a minor and false use of identification. Police said they received a report of a purse found in the 600 block of South Saylor Avenue. The purse contained a fraudulent identification and two vape pens containing tobacco.

  • A 49-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Highland and Armitage avenues on a charge of attempted criminal trespass to a vehicle. Police said they were called about a man suspiciously looking into car windows and pulling on door handles. He was released.

Burglary

  • Kala S. Castro, 34, of Chicago, was arrested about 6 p.m. Monday on two counts of both burglary and retail theft. She was also charged with obstruction of identification. Police said the incident occurred at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. Castro was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

  • A man was found in a storage unit about 8 a.m. Monday at the Metra train station, 128 W. First St. He had recently been issued a no-trepass notice for the property. Metra police took the man into custody. Patch emailed an inquiry to Metra for more information about the case.

Shattered glass

  • About 3:30 a.m. Monday, Enterprise Leasing, 856 N. York St., reported shattered glass at the east entrance of the business. The only thing stolen was a license plate.

Restaurant dumpster fire

  • Someone lit a dumpster on fire shortly before noon June 21 at Burger King, 176 E. Butterfield Road. An investigation is pending. The fire was reported to police Monday.

Egging

  • Someone egged a house overnight Monday in the 200 block of South Chandler Avenue. An investigation is pending.
