Elmhurst Theft: Man Says Camera Stolen From Hands

The theft occurred in downtown Elmhurst, police said. The suspect's description was released.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a theft from a man's hands, a burglary at a construction site, a scam, drunk people, an attack at a nursing home and retail theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Theft

  • A man stole a camera from another man's hands about 3 p.m. Sunday at First and York streets. The suspect ran away into an alley. Officers could not find the suspect. An investigation is pending. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s, 6 feet tall, and wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a backpack.

Burglary at a construction site

  • Someone broke into a company's trailer between 3:30 p.m. March 27 and noon March 28 and stole several tools at the Field Elementary school construction site, 295 N. Emroy Ave. The trailer, owned by DeKalb-based 1Source Mechanical, was parked in a gated area. An investigation is pending.

Scam

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Madison Street told police Thursday that someone claiming to be an employee of her bank gained access to her account and advised her to send money. An investigation is pending.

Intoxicated

  • About 11 a.m. Friday, a man pulling into his driveway found a person lying on the ground unresponsive. An officer found the victim to be drunk. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. Police did not say where the incident happened.
  • A man lying on the ground was found to be drunk and unresponsive about 6 p.m. Friday at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
  • A man having trouble keeping his balance was found to be drunk shortly after 11 p.m. Friday at Starbucks, 680 W. North Ave. He said he did not have a place to stay. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Attack at nursing home

  • A woman told police she was attacked by a person who suffers from many medical problems. The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lexington Square nursing home, 400 W. Butterfield Road. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Damage

  • Someone damaged the front door of an apartment building between noon Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Van Buren Street. An investigation is pending.

Retail theft

  • A person stole several items about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Thorntons, 476 N. York St.

Lost phone

  • A man told police that he lost his iPhone 14 after eating about 5 p.m. Friday at Portillo's restaurant, 155 S. Route 83.
