Elmhurst Theft Suspects Caught In Act: Police

The suspects were stealing a catalytic converter from a car, according to a report.

ELMHURST, IL – Four Chicago men were arrested Sunday in connection with the theft of a catalytic converter from a car at a condominium complex, police said.

About 5:30 a.m., a resident saw several men crouching near a parked car and heard a sawing noise at the complex at 110 W. Butterfield Road, according to an Elmhurst police news release. The resident called 911.

When officers showed up, three of the men ran from the parking lot toward Butterfield, but they were apprehended within minutes, police said.

Officers also found a fourth man sitting in the driver's seat of a silver Infiniti sedan in the lot, according to the release. They also spotted a reciprocating saw, saw blades, a half-ton floor jack and a sawed-off catalytic converter.

Police said one converter was stolen from a Hyundai SUV and another had been partially sawed off from a second Hyundai SUV in the parking lot. The Infiniti was impounded.

The four Chicago men were 18-year-olds Omarion M. Booker and Devin Gentry and 19-year-olds Demarcus O. Burnett and Kevin L. Gentry.

They were charged with possession of an essential motor vehicle part and attempted possession of an essential motor vehicle part. All but Devin Gentry were charged with resisting and obstructing police.
