Elmhurst Theft Suspects Have Stolen Gun: Police

They filled a bag with clothing from a local store, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst officers found a stolen gun in the car of two suspects who stole clothing at Kohl's, police said.

About 5 p.m. Wednesday, Marquis Q. Henderson, 29, and Etonia G. Henderson, 20, both of Chicago, stole clothing, filled a bag with the items and then placed the bag into the back seat of a white BMW sedan, according to an Elmhurst police news release.

An Elmhurst officer noticed the BMW leaving the area and followed it as it headed north on Route 83. Officers arrested the Hendersons in a parking lot at Route 83 and North Avenue.

In the car, the officers said they found the stolen clothing and a security device removal tool. They also said they discovered a loaded Glock 43X semiautomatic 9mm pistol with an extended magazine. The handgun was reported as having been stolen in Chicago, police said.

The Hendersons were each charged with burglary and retail theft. Marquis Henderson faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a gun by a convicted felon, while Etonia Henderson was charged with possession of an electronic theft detection removal device.

They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.

"The Elmhurst Police Department will always protect our community from criminals, and I am relieved we were able to take this stolen handgun off the streets, likely preventing future tragedy," Police Chief Michael McLean said in the news release.
