This Elmhurst Vehicle Often 1st To Medical Emergencies
The service, which started in 2017, is performing as expected, an official said.

ELMHURST, IL – In supporting a new ambulance contract, an Elmhurst alderwoman on Monday paid special tribute to the local "rapid response" vehicle.
In its agreement with Elmhurst, Superior Ambulance deployed the SUV in 2017.
"It was added to decrease our response times, and I think we have found it is working as expected," Alderwoman Marti Deuter said at a City Council meeting. "That is the first vehicle that responds to calls in many cases."

In 2017, the advanced life support vehicle received the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference's "Best Innovation Award."
"Other municipalities are now replicating the service," Deuter said.

The vehicle is unable to transport a patient to the hospital. But it can quickly arrive and start treatment before an ambulance shows up.
The SUV is considered more maneuverable through city traffic than an ambulance.
