Elmhurst Woman Faces Domestic Battery Charges
Police are also looking into another domestic disturbance. One person had a loaded gun, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving domestic battery, theft of checks, porch piracy, a gift card scam, fugitive drivers and identity theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Domestic battery
- Cindy Guarin, 34, of Elmhurst, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue on two counts of domestic battery. Police said she struck a person during an argument. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

- Police received a call about a domestic disturbance about 9 a.m. Thursday near Top Dog Retreat, 180 W. Lake St. One suspect ran away from officers, but was caught several blocks away. The other suspect drove away, but officers stopped the person. A loaded handgun was found after the second suspect concealed it. An investigation is pending.
Check theft
- A resident in the 600 block of South Hillside Avenue told police Thursday that she mailed a check and later found that someone altered it and deposited it at an ATM. The check was canceled, and there was no monetary loss. An investigation is pending.
- A person in Elmhurst told police Friday he mailed a check for roofing work but later discovered it had been altered and cashed by someone. An investigation is pending.

- A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police Saturday that someone stole her Amazon package after it was delivered.
Gift card scam
- A resident in the 200 block of East Church told police Sunday that her friend emailed her asking to buy an Amazon e-card. The resident bought one and sent the card information to who she thought was her friend. The resident was later notified her friend's email had been hacked. Many scams involve sending gift card information.
Fugitive drivers
- About 3 a.m. Thursday, an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop. The driver sped away, last seen entering westbound Interstate 290.
- At 2 a.m. Monday, an officer tried to stop a black Hyundai Kona reported stolen in Chicago at North and Oaklawn. The driver sped away, last seen heading east on St. Charles Road, passing Poplar.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 200 block of East Wilson Street told police Thursday that someone tried to use his personal information to conduct two credit inquiries in Nevada and Indiana. The victim reported the fraudulent activity to credit bureaus.
- A resident in the 300 block of East Laurel Avenue told police Saturday that someone tried to open several credit cards in his name. The resident froze his accounts. No monetary loss was reported.
