Extreme Cold In Elmhurst: What's Closed
Several libraries, refuse services and schools have announced closures due to the cold.

ELMHURST, IL — Schools, services and other organizations will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to the historic and dangerous cold moving into the area. Due to extreme temperatures, the city said garbage pick-up will be delayed by one day. Pick-up will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Elmhurst YMCA will also be closed on Wednesday.
As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, schools who have announced closures for Wednesday, Jan. 30 are:
- District 205
- Elmhurst Academy
- Elmhurst College
- IC Catholic Prep
- Immanuel Lutheran School
- Immaculate Conception Grade School
- Timothy Christian schools
- Pythagoras Children's Academy
- Kensington School of Elmhurst
- Visitation Catholic School - Closed Wednesday AND Thursday
- Mary Queen of Heaven Preschool
The Elmhurst Park District has also announced it will closing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 and reopening at 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. The park district said all indoor and outdoor facilities, including the Wagner Community Center, Courts Plus, The Abbey, Sugar Creek Golf Course, sled hills and skating at the Eldridge Park Lagoon will be closed during that time, and programs will not be running.
