Fake Apple Support, Threats: Elmhurst Cops

A resident called what appeared to be Apple Support, but ended up losing money, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving an Apple Support scam, threats, drug theft, a found bullet, a fast food dispute and a domestic disturbance. Here's information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fake Apple Support

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Howard Avenue told police Friday about being scammed after contacting a website that looked like Apple Support. The resident called the number provided and was told to download a program onto the computer to allow Apple Support access to the computer. The purported Apple representative then asked the resident for personal information, which the resident provided. The resident then noticed money was withdrawn from the resident's account.

Threats

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Elm Avenue told police Friday that his ex-girlfriend may call them and report he was making threats. The man denied making threats. Police then contacted the ex-girlfriend, who said the man made unspecified threats in the past but could not recall when the last one was made.

Drug theft

  • A man stole over-the-counter medication about 4 p.m. Friday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. An investigation is pending.

Bullet found

  • While doing yard work, a resident in the 800 block of North Adele Street told police Friday that he found a bullet with no shell casing. The bullet was placed into evidence.

Bicycles found

  • A black and orange Nishiki bicycle was outside 7-Eleven, 572 S. York St., for several hours before police were informed about 4 a.m. Saturday. It was found to be stolen in the 100 block of East Oneida Avenue while it was left outside overnight. The owner was notified that the bike was available at the police station for pickup.
  • A girl's pink Dynacraft bicycle was stolen about 7 p.m. Friday at the York High School track. The bike was placed into evidence.
  • A blue and purple Schwinn bicycle was found about 2 a.m. Sunday at Berens Park, 493 N. Oaklawn Ave. It was placed into evidence.

Suspicious person

  • Officers were called about 1:30 a.m. Saturday to the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue about a suspicious person. A person said he saw the hooded person approach his driveway. Officers could not find the person.
  • A woman told police that someone was making her uncomfortable about 3 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Emroy Avenue, which is where Field Elementary School is. She was told to make her supervisor aware of the situation.

Fast food dispute

  • A man yelled at an employee of Wendy's, 956 N. York St., about 1 a.m. Sunday after the employee served the man food. The man was refunded his money and given a no-trespass notice.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance shortly after midnight Sunday in the 600 block of West Babcock Avenue. A man said he and another person got into an argument. The other person left the house.
