Fatal DUI Crash In Elmhurst Neighborhood: Cops

Woman is accused of aggravated DUI and drug possession, police say.

ELMHURST, IL – A passenger died after a DUI accident early Saturday morning in an Elmhurst neighborhood, police said.

About 2 a.m., a Chevrolet Traverse SUV struck a construction trailer near Van Auken Street and North End Avenue, according to the police department’s regular media report. The passenger was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Alibet Mendoza of Cicero, showed signs of impairment and was arrested on a charge of aggravated DUI, police said.

Mendoza is also facing charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.

The police did not say whether Mendoza was taken to the DuPage County Jail. She was not listed among the jail’s inmates as of Monday afternoon, according to its website.
