Fewer Virus Patients At Elmhurst Hospital

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital saw a decrease in coronavirus patients Tuesday, down by a dozen from the day before.

In its daily report, the hospital said it had 86 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19. For a week, the hospital reported either 97 or 98 patients each day, numbers that exceeded the November 2020 record of 84.

Of the hospital's patients, 50, or nearly 60 percent, are unvaccinated, according to its report. Twenty-eight are vaccinated, while three are partially vaccinated. The hospital has yet to collect and post data for five others.

In the last day, five people have died from the coronavirus at the hospital. The total is 236 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 14 in the last week.

Since March 2020, the hospital has discharged 2,529 COVID-19 patients, more than 100 of them in the last week. On Tuesday, the hospital reported that 19 had been discharged in the previous day.

Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst. But the city's numbers are an indicator of what's happening. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 599 new coronavirus cases, the highest weekly number during the pandemic.
