Fight, Stumbling Customer: Elmhurst Cops

A man suffered minor injuries in a fight with a friend in a local neighborhood, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a fight, a drunk customer, a gift card scam, a reckless driver, a threat, DUIs, drug possession, stolen cars and an argument. Here is information from the latest reports:

Fight

  • A man told police he was involved in a fight with a friend and suffered minor scratches to his face about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of South Fairfield Avenue. The suspect left the house before officers arrived. The man refused to provide any more information and did not want to sign a complaint.

  • An intoxicated person was stumbling and bothering customers about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruff Life, 118 W. Vallette St. The person was given a no-trespass notice. Medics were called to check on the person.

Gift card scam

  • A resident in the Elm Creek Apartments told police she received an email stating she was charged for a subscription. She then contacted the "customer service" number and was told to buy gift cards to get a refund. She bought seven gift cards and gave the numbers to "customer service." An investigation is pending.

Reckless driver

  • Police received a report of a reckless driver about 1 p.m. Friday. They found the driver in his car at Panera Bread, 108 E. North Ave. The driver was found to be suffering from health issues. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Threat

  • A man told police that another man threatened to harm him about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of South Riverside Drive. An officer was unable to contact the suspect. An investigation is pending.

Failure to notify

  • Noe Fabian-Lopez, 36, of Bensenville, was cited about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Grand and Industrial avenues on charges of failure to give information after striking a motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond.

DUIs

  • Jakub Noufal, 35, of Chicago, was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Friday at Indiana Street and North Avenue on charges of DUI, possession of marijuana by a driver and improper lane usage. He was released on bond.
  • Jose Julian Delcid-Mendez, 20, of Chicago, was arrested shortly after midnight Saturday at North and Melrose avenues on charges of DUI, endangering the life of a child (two counts), no valid driver's license, driving an uninsured car and improper lane usage. He was released on bond.

Drug possession

  • Scott Viverito, 32, of Burbank, was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday at Lake and York streets on charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, driving with expired license plates and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Stolen cars

  • About 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Butterfield and High, an officer stopped a car that had been reported stolen in Chicago. It was determined the registered owner was the driver. The car had been reported stolen, but was later recovered. Chicago police were notified.
  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a stolen car about 9 p.m. Friday at North and Berteau. The driver sped away north on Addison from North Avenue.

Fraud

  • Greenwood Fence, 850 N. Addison Ave., processed an order for a large amount of fencing material Tuesday. The next day, the suspect arrived to pick up the material and paid using fraudulently obtained credit cards and forged cashier's checks. An investigation is pending.

Unconscious person at business

  • Officers and medics responded to a report of an unconscious person about 2 p.m. Thursday at Win Auto Plaza, 704 W. Lake St. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Argument

  • A man and a woman were arguing about 7 p.m. Thursday outside Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. Both agreed to separate for the evening.

Porch piracy

  • A package was stolen about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 30 from the vestibule at the Elm Creek Apartments. The theft was reported Friday.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 700 block of South Hawthorne Avenue told police Friday that someone cashed a fraudulent check, deposited the money into the resident's account and then withdrew it.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop a Volkswagen Passat for speeding and improper lighting about 4:30 a.m. Saturday at North Avenue and Route 83. The driver sped away, last seen heading north on Route 83.
