Fire At Soon-To-Open Elmhurst Restaurant: Cops
In another case, a man taking pictures of a house aroused suspicion, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a fire, a suspicious photographer, disorderly conduct, theft and porch piracy. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Fire
- A fire was observed about 2:30 a.m. at the center of Yorky's restaurant, 609 W. St. Charles Road. Firefighters put it out. The Yorky's location has not opened yet. The longtime restaurant is at 836 N. York St. Patch left an emailed message for comment with the Yorky's owner.

- A woman told police that a man entered her driveway and took pictures of her house about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of South Hill Avenue. The man left when the woman told him she was calling the police. He was described as black, 40 to 45, 6 feet, and wearing a white shirt, white shorts and white shoes.
Disorderly conduct
- A 24-year-old Chicago Heights man was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday at North and Addison avenues on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana by a driver and improper window tinting. Police said the man, who was driving a gray Chevrolet Impala, was suspected of public indecency. He admitted to urinating in a bottle at the gas pumps and exposing himself to a woman pumping gas, police said. He was released.
- Police are investigating an incident of disorderly conduct that occurred about 3 p.m. Tuesday at Butterfield Road and Swain Avenue. The suspect was described as a white man, 42 to 47, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, 175 to 190 pounds, and having short brown hair.
Theft at dealership

- Someone stole the tires and rims from two dealer-owned Mazda CX70s in the back lot at Wilkins Mazda, 740 N. York St. The thefts occurred between Friday and Monday.
Porch piracy
- A man was seen stealing several packages about 4 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of South Mitchell Avenue. He drove away in a gray Toyota Avalon with no license plates.
Bike found
- About 8 a.m. Tuesday, an Elmhurst Park District employee found a black Reid seven-speed bicycle on the Prairie Path. The bike was placed into evidence.
Money theft
- Someone stole three envelopes containing money between Aug. 28 and Sept. 24 in an apartment in the 200 block of East Butterfield Road. An investigation is pending.
Retail theft
- After a retail theft investigation Wednesday, it was found that the suspect committed another such theft at Mariano's, 678 N. York St., on Sept. 20.
- Three suspects filled two carts of groceries, paid for only a few items and bagged the rest without paying shortly before midnight at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. One of the suspects was described as elderly.
Warrants
- A 46-year-old Naperville man was arrested about 2 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of West Butterfield Road on a Naperville warrant. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
- A 24-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Myrtle and North avenues on DuPage County warrants and a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
